Effects of nanofillers on morphology and surface wetting of microporous polypropylene composite membranes

Microporous polypropylene (PP) nanocomposite membranes suitable for various applications such as energy storage, water purification, membrane separation, etc., were prepared by melt mixing of and natural rubber (NR) subsequently followed etching phase. Nanoparticles having spherical shape (Al2O3), irregular (TiO2), 2D platelet morphology (Cloisite 30 B (C–30 B)), used to the influence nanoparticles on pore wetting properties PP. Morphology PP was investigated SEM TEM analysis study reveals that all possess a co-continuous porous structure with minimum percentage porosity 62 ± 2. Mechanical studies showed have significant effect tensile strength, strain failure, Young's modulus. DSC results indicate do not make any change melting temperature polypropylene. Polarized optical microscopic reveal nanofillers enhances spherulite growth acting heterogeneous nucleating agent. Contact angle measurements using two different test liquids (distilled Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)), Al2O3 added exhibits good wettability in both liquids.
